Manchester United sins in Sin City. Omari Forson was hauled off, Brandon Williams was involved in a blazing row with Tom Heaton, Andre Onana rolled Harry Maguire and three goals were shipped.

Forson, the 18-year-old winger, was removed by Erik ten Hag after 37 minutes for kicking out at Borussia Dortmund left-back Julian Ryerson and tangling with Karim Adeyemi. Ryerson had informed the linesman, luring Ten Hag onto the pitch as they shared verbals.

Forson was booked, and Antony was immediately ordered to warm up. Eight minutes later, Forson was replaced by Antony.

Ten Hag held a 33-second debrief with the Londoner and ended it by patting him on the head. United were ahead. They were behind at the end of the first half.

Donyell Malen pounced twice in as many minutes to spark an inquest laced with invective between the truculent Williams and Heaton. A boxing enthusiast from Harpurhey shouted at Heaton, “f–k up”. Heaton, fully embracing his sweeper keeper reinvention, marched out of his area and bit back.

The player culpable was actually Victor Lindelof for attempting a pass that was not on. After enjoying a fulfilling half, Heaton was struck by Malen in the 43rd and 44th minute. The second came within 18 seconds from the kick-off. Aaron Wan-Bissaka was guilty of a similar error to Lindelof’s when Dortmund regained their advantage.

Heaton did not emerge for the second half as Onana strode on for his second United appearance. Billed as ‘Andrew Onana’ on the teamsheet, the Cameroonian pinged his first pass effortlessly and moments later agilely thwarted Sebastian Haller. As soon as Onana saw Harry Maguire, he pushed him and rollocked him.
