In an effort to improve upon their second-place Premier League performance from the previous season, the Gunners made costly purchases throughout the summer. Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Timber, and goalkeeper David Raya—the latter on an initial season-long loan—were all bought for the better part of £210 million and moved to Emirates Stadium.

However, after witnessing Timber suffer what appears to be a horrific season-ending ACL injury on debut against Nottingham Forest, manager Mikel Arteta is already down one newcomer.

Following a treatment to fix the damage, the Dutchman’s recovery is already under way, and it’s uncertain whether Arsenal will see the £38 million player they acquired from Ajax play again this season.

It was rumored that Arsenal would search for a replacement as his absence threw Arteta’s plans into turmoil.

Arsenal looking at Marc Guehi as one of three targets

One man they were rumoured to be looking at was Guehi.

The former Chelsea man has taken his game to another level at Crystal Palace since his £18 million move from Chelsea.

Indeed, any move for him would not come cheap, with the Eagles rating him at around the £60 million mark these days.

The Gunners do have two other options too, in Benfica’s Alexander Bah and Galatasaray’s Victor Nelsson.

Deals for all three could be re-explored in the January window, although Ben Jacobs, speaking to Caught Offside, has explained why Arteta did not make his move in the summer.

“Arsenal decided against buying cover for the injured Jurrien Timber. Bringing in another defender was always going to happen if the right fit became available,” Jacobs said.
