  • Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins contract may not be terminated after helping the team secure a sixth Premier League win.
  • Aston Villa secured their fourth victory of the new Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Chelsea.

Unsurprisingly, it was star striker Ollie Watkins who emerged victorious, as his goal in the 73rd minute was all that separated the two teams.

However, it wasn’t simply his goal that gave Villa a convincing victory; the forward also completed 86% of his passes and won both of his duels.

Interestingly, Watkins only had 18 touches, which was the fewest of any starter for either team and even one fewer than Villa replacement Jacob Ramsey, although he did make one crucial pass.

But more crucially, the striker displayed great class by remaining focused and patient, giving Watkins the chance to seize the initiative.

The Villa ace was undoubtedly the leading striker at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson struggling in the final third.

Another impressive display from Watkins has inevitably led to new contract talk, with his manager Emery producing an update in this regard after the win.

“I am working about it. We are in touch,” said Emery, as quoted by the Express & Star (24 September).

That will be welcome news to Villa fans, who will be desperate to keep their star striker at the club for as long as possible after another match-winning performance.
