Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal are looking at Wilfried Zaha as a potential signing before the end of the summer.
It’s no secret that Arsenal are in the market for a new elite-level winger this summer. They’ve been linked with the likes of Pedro Neto and Raphinha as of late, and according to Jones, they also have an eye on Zaha.
Unfortunately for the Gunners, the reporter states that this deal isn’t one that’s moving forward at the moment, but he maintains that there is a background interest in Zaha from Arsenal.
WHAT’S BEEN SAID?
Jones made the claim about Arsenal and Zaha.
“They’re not the only two names they’re looking at (Neto and Yeremy Pino). In the background there is Wilfried Zaha. That deal is not moving forward at the moment, but Zaha is definitely one of those players that ticks the boxes and that Arsenal have an eye on. We will have to wait and see if they go down that path, Zaha is obviously in red-hot form at the moment,” Jones said.
CAN’T SEE IT
As fantastic a signing as Zaha would be for Arsenal, it’s hard to see this one coming to fruition.
Zaha is a Crystal Palace legend, and while it’s not out of the question that he would leave Selhurst Park, he’d surely only join a club where he’d be considered a key player.
With the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka all firm favourites of Mikel Arteta, Zaha wouldn’t have that sort of assurance at the Emirates, while at the age of 29, he doesn’t fit into the young core that Arsenal are trying to build right now.
We don’t doubt that Arsenal have had a look at Zaha – he’s a fantastic footballer but it’s tough to see this transfer actually happening before the deadline.
